"MADE IN SWEDEN" A ONSHORE PRODUCTION MODEL FOR THE FUTURE
Two years ago, Diemonde decided to move production from China to Portugal. Now, they’re scaling up their onshore production, taking a kinder, more environmental approach producing garments while creating job opportunities for newly-arrived, foreign-born women Iiving in Sweden.
”Fashion is our biggest passion, not only because of the garments and designs, but because of its powerful ability to innovate, express and define,” says Angelo da Silveira, founder and CEO of Diemonde and Fugeetex. ”Ever since we began our journey, we’ve worked towards creating modern expressions for a new generation. Expressions that will last over time, rather than die following seasonal trends. Our mission to combine street culture with timeless and minimalistic design, in order to create a common ground, has kept us true to our identity and values.”

How does it work?
Products from the ”Made-in-Sweden” concept will be available online at diemonde.com, where orders are also made. That order then goes directly to the Fugeetex factory in Laxå. One of the seamstresses then creates the garment according to the customers order sheet, and the garment will then be shipped and delivered within five to ten working days.
The Fugeetex model is about solving the need of on-shore production by appreciating and placing a real value on the competence of foreign-born women. Fugeetex has located newly-arrived women with experience in garment factories around the world, and developed a process where their existing expertise is truly valued and utilized every day while creating financial independence.
REDUCING CARBON EMISSION WHILE CREATING JOB OPPORTUNITIES
In order to keep track of the supply chain and reduce the environmental footprint, Diemonde are constantly working towards developing and adapting innovative solutions to our production model. In 2017, Diemonde made a big leap when we decided to move away from offshore production, switching from factories in China to Portugal.
”This initiative made it possible for us to avoid production quantities we never even wanted in the first place. It also reduced our carbon emission by 75%,” says Angelo, pointing to the fact that, ”in 2018, we decided to start working towards an even more sustainable production cycle. Our ambitions resulted in the production of three jacket models, all made locally in Sweden alongside our Summer 2019 drop. We discovered that by scaling up our onshore production, we were able to lower our carbon emissions through production by 93%, while simultaneously creating values, offering transparency and quality. It’s not about creating a solution that’s exclusive for Diemonde. It’s about creating a solution that can help the Swedish fashion industry and economy, never excluding anyone. To us, sustainability is about shaping a better future for the next generation. Whether it’s about taking action in a small or big way, you still have a choice.”
